Colombia-Spring Break 2023

Yes, Colombia.

Our trips usually start with a cheap flight June stumbled upon or one of our half-committed dinnertime ideas to visit a new place.

“We have to reserve it soon, though.”

Hence-Colombia. The thought of visiting Colombia never crossed my mind before, but why not? True, there may be a few drug-related issues based on the movies I’ve “studied” over time–Blow, American Made, Scarface, Narcos etc. But after visiting many popular destinations, I’m ready for a change. Because of this stigma, I really wanted to see this place and give it a fair shot.

OK, so I like to test fates. Plus Paxton said he wants to visit the Amazon and set foot in South America at least once in his lifetime. This is the time.

We’ll be in Colombia for one week. That’s all the time we have to cram in two places-the sprawling high-altitude city of Bogota and then Leticia, the jump-off point to see the Colombian Amazon. This is a trip I’m excited for. Forget Disney and every overpriced tourist trap destination around the world. This time I’m looking for grit and grubs, not glamour, but raw humanity. We’ve packed rain jackets, mosquito repellent, mosquito soap and presprayed our stuff with even more mosquito-repelling chemicals. I even snuck in some fishing stuff in case we get the chance to wet the lines. Let’s go!

Bogota-8,530 feet above sea level. Temps look like they’ll be in the 40s to the 60s. Is this really South America? Yesterday when we checked Leticia’s weather, the humidity was %100. Is that even possible? That’s more like it.

HNL to LAX to PTY to BOG-17 hrs or so
